Adopted into His Family

Listen to me, O coastlands, and give attention, you peoples from afar. The Lord called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name. Isaiah 49:1

Adoption is something that very few people today understand. Unless you have personally been adopted or have adopted a child into your family it can be hard to grasp the magnitude of love that is behind it. I believe this is one of the greatest reasons why so many followers of Jesus cannot grasp the unrelenting love of God. I believe this is why it is so difficult for believers to walk in their identity as a son or a daughter. As an adopted child myself it has taken me years to understand my identity in Christ. Yet, I feel I am blessed to have a deeper understanding of what adoption looks like. Our Heavenly Father has adopted us as His sons and daughters. Picture this: You have just brought a baby home, adopted into your family. Your home is now the baby's home. The food in the fridge is now the baby's food. The couch your family sits on is now also the place the new baby will sit. The inheritance you will give to your biological children will also now be given to the adopted child. You will eat together, play together, rest together, serve together. You are now a family. This works the same way in God's family! He has adopted you. You are now one of His kids. You get the power, authority, and inheritance because you're in His family. He doesn't love you any less or any differently than He loves His own son. He's your Father. Yet, it's so hard for us to wrap our mind around that kind of identity. Most of us run away from it. We can't understand His unrelenting love for us. We know we don't deserve it. Sometimes it looks scary. Sometimes we think He's abandoned us. Sometimes we think we have to earn it. Yet, this new identity has nothing to do with what we can do. Have you realized that most of our struggles in life come from identity issues? When we don't know who we are or whose we are how can we possibly fight when the enemy comes to attack? When you know you are a son or a daughter and truly understand what comes with that your life will never be the same. You'll think differently, see differently, pray differently, hear differently, and walk differently. You cannot walk around with an orphan spirit if you want to move in the power and authority God's given you. He wants you to know and believe that you're adopted. He called you by name when you were in the womb. He wants you to understand His great love for you. He will always leave the ninety-nine to come after you. (Luke 15:3-7) There is no shadow He won't light up, no mountain He won't climb up, no wall He won't kick down, and no lie He won't tear down to come after you. He recklessly pursues you. He longs to give you the inheritance that Jesus died for you to have. Will you receive it? Will you accept that your adopted? Will you walk as His son or daughter? You have been adopted into the family of God. You are His child. His pride and joy. There is nothing you can do to lose that love, because it's who you are not what you do. Praise God this week as you remember the great price that was paid so that you could be adopted into God's family. We pray that you would receive a deeper revelation of God's love for you this week. May you know your identity in Christ and may the world be forever changed because of it!
