Detox
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Just as we detox our bodies from our poor diets and bad health choices we also must detox our souls. Each day we have so many worldly influences that overwhelm our hearts. These worldly influences put us in bondage, lead us to temptation, create unreasonable expectations, and turn our eyes off of Jesus. These influences come in the form of relationships, TV, Facebook, music, movies, addictions and on and on the list goes. We have become so numb to the constant worldviews that are thrown in our faces every day that we can get caught up in the norm of society instead of the Truth of Jesus. So, how can we get back on track? How do we stand on the Bible when everything in our lives goes against the Truth of Jesus? We detox. Just as you would detox certain foods or sugar from your diet to cleanse your body you can detox your soul. We turn off the TV. We go without Facebook. We step back from unhealthy relationships. Maybe you do need to detox your body physically. Maybe you need to say no to all the sugar. Only you know what is pulling your heart away from the Lord. Detox always seems like an impossible word. We make excuses not to detox because it's hard. Is it really possible to go without sugar? Is it really possible to live without Facebook? When you change your mindset on what it means to detox there will be no turning back. You'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. Detox is not about depriving your body and heart. It's not about saying no to all the worldly influences we struggle with every day. Detox is about God's abundance. It's about letting go of everything that is consuming us so that we can say yes to Jesus. So we can experience all He has for us. So that we can stand on His truth and His faithfulness in every season. Detox is about saying no so that we can have something better. So that we can receive grace upon grace. So that we can experience the fullness of Jesus. We pray that God would show you what you need to detox this week. We pray that you would have the strength to say no to things of this world so that you can say yes to the abundance of life that God has for you.
