Wisdom for Today

God answered Solomon, "Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked for possessions, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, and have not even asked for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may govern my people over whom I have made you king, wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. I will also give you riches, possessions, and honor, such as none of the kings had who were before you, and none after you shall have the like." 2 Chronicles 1:11-12

In the world of chaos that we live in with crime, heartache, natural disasters, and sin our needs are so often put at the top of our prayer lists. It seems only natural for us to cry out to God to meet our needs. As a father loves for his child to come to him so does our Heavenly Father love when we run to Him. Yet, what would our lives look like if our prayers changed from constantly seeking the provision to simply praying for wisdom and knowledge like Solomon did? We have become so accustomed to how the world works through our worldly mindset. Usually at the heart of all our needs are money. We so quickly forget that God doesn't use our currency of money for His provisions. His power is so much greater than we could ever comprehend. If He can provide manna from heaven and water from a rock why are we constantly worried with how our needs are going to get met? God knows our needs. He loves when we go to Him as our provider, but what if we lived as if we believed He actually is our provider! What if we thanked God for our daily bread instead of looking months down the road? What if we prayed for wisdom and knowledge for everything He's already provided us with so that we would remain good stewards? So often our hearts stay fixed on our problems instead of our Provider. If we know that God is faithful and that He will provide then shouldn't we be praying for wisdom on how to best use that provision once it shows up? We know it's coming, because God is faithful. We can look back over the years and see how He has never once abandoned us. So why do we dwell on our problems? It's a fight between our flesh and our identity in Christ. When you know who you are as God's son or daughter you will know your inheritance. You will know how God sees you. You will know His love for you. You'll get your eyes off the problem and fix them on Jesus. Praying for wisdom and knowledge doesn't mean your problems will disappear over night, but it will change your mindset. You'll be able to focus on what God has already given you and you'll recognize when He opens the windows of heaven and pours out grace upon grace in your life. We pray this week that you would begin to pray for wisdom. You will be amazed at how your viewpoint begins to change. You won't lack anything and you'll end up giving more than you ever thought you could. We pray that the Lord would show you His glory this week. May you praise Him through every trial as you stand hopeful knowing your provisions are on the way.
