The Splendor of His Holiness
Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due His name; worship Yahweh in the splendor of His holiness.
Psalms 29:2 (HCSB) Worship is something we do every day. It's something we do even when we don't realize it. Sometimes we believe that worship is just what we do when we go to church or when we sing a song. Yet, worship is so much more than that. The last couple weeks I've felt the Holy Spirit inviting me to not just worship with my mouth, but to actually believe the worship that I speak. With everything that has happened in the world this year worship can be put off and forgotten about. If we are not intentionally focusing on what we are worshipping it's easy to become lost in the ways of the world. We can praise God with our mouths, but place other things above Him in our hearts. With our eyes fixed on the news, the pandemic, or whatever other distractions there may be we can forget that every breath we breathe is a gift. So as I've been sitting with Jesus the last several days and removing the distractions around me I've realized how much I've been holding that breath that gives me life. I've been holding my breath waiting for the next thing, the next bad news, the next disappointment, the next thing to worry about. I've placed my fear and worry over my faith and trust in the King of Kings. My mouth can speak worship all day long, but my heart has been longing to believe what I speak. The breath in our lungs, the gift He's given us, is what sustains us. He sustains us. He is the One that strengthens, renews, and revives us. So why do we spend so much time going through the motions only to hold our breath waiting for the next bad thing. This is the day the Lord has made. I don't want to waste it holding my breath when I could be enjoying it. Do you? I look at our days and see things that are not how I want or how I think they should be. I see lack. I see needs. But, when I focus on the things that don't look like I think they should I miss the joy that is staring me in the face. I miss the reason for every breath I've been given. God is good and He is holy. I fear the Lord more than I fear the things of this world. So why do I waste my days? Why is it so easy to hold my breath instead of enjoying today? I don't want to worship worry, fear, or disappointments. I want to worship Jesus. I don't want it to be just humming along to the newest worship song while I go about my day. I want my entire being: heart, soul, and mind to believe every breath of worship I breathe. Because, He is worthy of all my praise. It is when our entire beings believe our worship that we come alive. When we worship in Spirit and in Truth we're able to rest, feel joy, and walk in peace. Have you been holding your breath? Have you forgotten how to truly enjoy today? Have you been going through the motions only to realize something is missing? God is inviting you to worship today. He's inviting you to truly believe He is who He says He is. He's inviting you to rejoice and be glad in this day He's given you. What will you worship with the breath you've been given? Remove the distractions and the lies and sit and breathe today. Worship God in the splendor of His holiness. Today is a day to rejoice. Today is a day be glad. Today is a day to rest in Jesus. Will you let Him sustain you today? We pray that you would be aware of every breath you breathe this week. Worship the Lord with gladness and enjoy this day you've been given. "...Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was, who is, and who is to come!" (Revelation 4:8)
