God's working on it.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

There are some scriptures that we cling to during times of uncertainty. Most of these scriptures are promises that bring us hope. Yet, if we're honest with ourselves there are a lot of days where the same hopeful promise leaves us feeling hopeless. Have you ever proclaimed Romans 8:28 over your life only to be left feeling like nothing was working out for your good? Our flesh often leaves us feeling that if all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose that everything in our lives should be good according to our definition of good. We think that because I love God that I should get my way all the time. And so often when things don't seem like they are working out for our good we resort back to our fleshly way of thinking that we've either done something wrong or that God doesn't love us. It can seem like a never ending battle between what we know is Truth and the way we feel and see things. We quote scriptures such as Romans 8:28 over our lives and expect God to magically pop out of a bottle and give us those three wishes we've been wanting. All the while we miss the rest of the verse. As we look deeper into the verse we'll first discover that the promise is for those who love God. Second, we'll see that it is God who makes all things work together for good. It's by His power and strength alone. It has nothing to do with us. It has nothing to do with how we see things or how we feel. It has nothing to do with our own desires. It is solely based on who God is. If we look at the definition of the word "work" we'll realize that work is a process. So on the days where nothing seems to be going right we can know that for those that love God that He is working things together for our good. He's working behind the scenes. He's aligning our lives with His will and purpose. The process takes time. Though "it may seem slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay." (Habakkuk 2:3) Do not be discouraged when your heart is overwhelmed by the day ahead of you. God is in the process of aligning things in your life so that things in your life are not only good, but amazing! The process of life can be painful, but you can rest at the feet of Jesus knowing that His timing is perfect. That the Spirit is interceding on your behalf (Romans 8:27) You can rejoice that God has a purpose for you, that He loves you, that He sees every detail of your life, and that He cares about the process and the outcome. We pray this week that you would not lose hope as God works things together for your good. May you cling to Him every day as you love Him with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. He's working on your behalf. It's nothing you can earn. It's only by His grace. Rest in Jesus during the process. God is working all things together for your good according to His purpose!
